Fishing

Behind this mighty fisherman lies the Oak Ridge & Lake Avery State Wildlife Area.  It's a man-made reservoir that is stocked by the Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) every year.  Most people catch and release but kids can keep 2 and adults 4.  Fish from the shore or you can bring a small boat.

Serious fly fisherman enjoy the entire length of the White River www.coloradofishing.net .  A quick drive to the bottom of the hill and you're set for the day.  Note these special rules for the White River:

Public portion of White River ~5 minutes from the Lodge

Special Rules for White River – Rio Blanco County

From the headwaters (including the North Fork and South Fork) of the White River downstream to the Colo 13 Bridge below Meeker:

     1. The bag and possession limit for trout is 2 fish.

On the Sleepy Cat easement, Wakara and Nelson/Prather leases, and the Meeker Pasture State Wildlife Area east of Meeker:

     1. Fishing is by artificial flies and lures only.
     2. All trout must be returned to the water immediately upon catch.
